Mr. Bulgrien's SAT advice (based on the old format):
- During the test, check on your timing using approximate times.
- First test (reading): 65 minutes for 5 sections = 13 minutes each.
- If you're not done with the first selection in 15 minutes, speed up.
- You should be finished with the second selection around 25 minutes in.
- Second test (langauge): 35 minutes for 4 sections = 8:45 each.
- If you're not done with the first selection in 10 minutes, speed up.
- You should be finished with the second selection around 18 minutes in.
- First test (reading): 65 minutes for 5 sections = 13 minutes each.
- Math timing
- Don't sit on questions you're not getting right away.
- Move on and do what you can first.
- Then go back during the remaining time for the ones you skipped.
- It's also worth considering doing the constructed-response (non-multiple choice) questions first.
- It's a lot easier to guess on the multiple-choice questions if you do run out of time.
- Check on your calculators here.
- Don't sit on questions you're not getting right away.
- Care about doing well on the essay.
- If you want to retake the SAT in the future, you could decide not to redo the essay portion if you're happy with your score on that part of the SAT.
- You'll have 50 minutes to work on the essay. That's a lot of time.
- If you haven't yet, check out the sample questions so you're aware of what will be asked of you.
- This is perhaps most important for the math sections of the test.
